Carissa edulis (African Plum / Mukambura) is a thorny, evergreen indigenous shrub or small tree widely prized across Kenya for its sweet, edible dark-purple berries and extensive medicinal value. It produces fragrant white-to-pink star-shaped flowers that attract bees and pollinators year-round. Its dense, spiny growth makes it an ideal ecological live fence, while its roots and bark are traditionally used in herbal medicine. APRCC propagates and promotes Carissa edulis to support indigenous fruit cultivation, food security, and habitat restoration.
